It&#8217;s a reminder of our place in the universe and the incredible beauty that surrounds us.<\/p><p>On a starry night of August 19th, 2024, the Ibbagamuwa Central College in Kurunagala witnessed a unique astronomical spectacle. The Girl Guides Association of Sri Lanka, hosting <em>CEYLONA 2024 INTERNATIONAL CAMP<\/em> for both local and foreign girl guides, had invited the Colombo University Astronomical Society to conduct a night observation camp to explore the wonders of the cosmos.<\/p><p>A team of eleven dedicated members from the Astronomical Society of University of Colombo, led by President Mr. Primesh Kannangara, embarked on a journey to Ibbagamuwa, armed with telescopes and essential equipment. The members arrived at the school around 7:30 PM. The camp was attended by a diverse crowd, including local residents and foreign girl guides. The members of the club enthusiastically guided the participants, explaining the celestial phenomena and answering their questions.<\/p><p>Despite the challenges posed, the team successfully captured Saturn through a Dobsonian telescope. The sight of Saturn&#8217;s rings captivated the audience, especially the young girl guides. Approximately 60 girl guides actively participated in the observation, gaining valuable insights into astronomy.<br><\/p>\n<p>This event was a resounding success, not only for the participants but also for the Colombo University Astronomical Society. It provided a unique opportunity for young people to connect with the natural world and develop a lifelong appreciation for science.
