In 2021, the June solstice occurs on Monday, June 21, marking the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Solstices are opposite on either side of the equator, so the Winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere is the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.
June solstice occurs when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the year. සමකයට දෙපස සූර්යාලෝකය පතිත වීම ප්‍රතිවිරුද්ධ වේ. එබැවින් දකුණු අර්ධගෝලයේ ශීත සෘතුව යනු උතුරු අර්ධගෝලයේ ගිම්හානයයි.
පෘථිවි කක්ෂයේ උතුරු ධ්‍රැවය සූර්යයා දෙසට නැඹුරු වීමක් සිදුවන අතර එය උච්චතම අවස්ථාවට පැමිණි පසු එහි ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස ජුනි මස 21 වන දිනය වසරේ දීර්ඝතම දිවා කාලයට සහ කෙටිම රාත්‍රි කාලයට හිමිකම් කියයි.
