Now’s the time to catch Mercury, the innermost planet of the solar system, before it soon flies back toward the sun. the planet swings to its greatest elongation east of the setting sun on May 17, 2021. It will be visible in the western sky, shortly after sunset above the planet Venus. Mercury initially entered the evening sky on April 19, 2021, and will leave on June 11, 2021. It will be staying out longest after sunset, being at the highest up on the horizon for the next few days. The trick to finding mercury is to observe low in the western sky just after sunset. It can be observed with the naked eye as well as with binoculars.
